A precautionary note. This Digest is a biased document. It is written and compiled by people whose task is conserving what is left of the unimaginable natural riches of this transboundary river basin. Those who are making profits from the unsustainable use of the natural resources in this region would likely compile a much different collection of texts. Our Digest contains only references to such types of texts. Of course, as any systematic collection, this Digest has been tentatively divided in several larger topics, which are further subdivided in smaller, more focused stories that are then supplemented by maps, case-studies, graphs and photos. Major topics, listed on left margin of each page are: Introduction; Climate; Waters and water management; Ecosystems and ecoregions; Species diversity and use of biological resources; Nature conservation: econet and protected areas ; Countries & cultures; Economy; Land use; International policy. Besides you can use Short index, Full index to all available materials, or separate menus listing Texts(Full digest), Maps(Full atlas), Photos(All pictures) and all GIS –demos. Links provided at the bottom of each page. However, for your convenience, we provide you with additional links in text - cross-references that allow you to navigate your own course along the waters of the mighty Amur River. We also provide further references and web-links and the full text of the Amur-Heilong Basin Reader and selected publications from the past in PDF format so that you can dig deeper and roam wider than the limited format of this Digest allows.
We wish you a happy journey! |
